 ASTRONOMY: PAST & PRESENT

This talk covers the history of astronomy, from prehistoric cave paintings to robotic telescopes. It includes stories about
important people who were pivotal with their contribution to astronomy, the changes in theory and science behind the subject and  
how modern life has benefited from space science.

THE SPEAKER

·        Introducing Mary McIntyre, a passionate amateur astronomer and astrophotographer based in Oxfordshire, whose lifelong fascination with Astronomy has shaped her extraordinary journey into the cosmos.

·        Mary’s commitment to astronomy outreach is evident through her role as a regular co-host on the Astronomy FM radio show “Comet Watch” and occasional participation as a panel member on the Space Oddities live YouTube show. With a busy schedule, she actively gives talks on a diverse range of astronomy subjects, conducts practical astrophotography and astronomy sketching workshops for audiences of all ages. 

·        In March 2018, Mary achieved the prestigious honor of being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. She further contributes to the astronomical community as a member of the British Astronomical Association and holds a position on the council of the Society for Popular Astronomy. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to astronomy outreach, Mary was awarded the Sir Patrick Moore prize by the British Astronomical Association in 2021.
