CAS was established in the early 1960s with Patrick Moore visiting the society as he lived in East Grinstead at the time. The society is suitable for anyone who interested in stars, planets, the universe and all the kit that goes with an interest that spans an an infinite subject. Astronomy can be anything from looking at the night sky with a simple pair of binoculars to measuring the distances and atomic structure of stars from your back garden or even studying for a pHD and making astronomy your profession working with vast instruments on a Chilean mountain top.
We have approximately 25 current members who range from newer members just beginning to find their way around the night sky to members who have been observing the stars for many years and are keen to pass on their knowledge
Our monthly meetings cover varying topics of astronomical interest and usually include a guest speaker. We also arrange observing events for members and non members.
If you are interested in any aspect of astronomy, space and cosmology then Crawley Astronomical Society is for you with regular meetings, star gazing, help and advice. Ifield Community Centre. 41 Ifield Drive, Crawley. RH11 0DG. Check out the meeting list here
